As creative professionals, we’re always looking for ways to grow and build our skillset to evolve with industry challenges and needs. But even still, sometimes we just feel…stuck.
If you feel like you’ve hit a wall with your career, need to make a change or are simply wondering how best you can adapt in your current role, look no further. In this two-part event, a panel of DC-based design professionals will share how they successfully pivoted their careers, diving into touch on topics such as:
- Evolving with technology by acquiring new skills
- Reinventing and changing your career path
- Things to consider when making your next move
The event will begin with a panel of experts (Jess Ray, Associate Creative Director at Deloitte Digital; Jessica Pavone, Product Designer at Upside Travel; Erin Lange, Senior Design Manager for Impactual; Kyle Overton, UX Designer at Capital One; and moderated Bailey O’Connell Senior Recruiter with Creative Circle) followed by two sessions of round-table discussions where you can have small group discussions with the speakers.
Light beverages and snacks will be provided.
Venue Accessibility (elevators, stairs, etc.): Brllnt is accessible from the front entrance of the Uline Arena building.
Transportation / Helpful Directions to Venue (metro stop, parking availability): 5 minute walk/0.3 miles from Noma-Gallaudet U New York Ave Station on the red line. Parking garage in the building via 1199 Congress St NE.

Erin Lange
Senior Design Manager for Impactual
Erin Lange is a multifaceted designer and creative storyteller. She leverages the intersection of design, culture, and technology to develop innovative solutions for social impact. Erin’s expertise in human-centered design has enabled her to collaborate with a wide breadth of organizations and clients including the Harvard Kennedy School, C-SPAN, Wolf Trap Foundation, and congressional representatives.

Product Designer at Upside Travel
Jessica Pavone is a Product Designer at Upside Travel in Washington, DC. Before she came to Upside, she worked as a graphic designer at the Brookings Institution, where she handled data viz and infographics, among other things. Prior to entering the design world, Jessica worked as a journalist on the editorial staffs of several national magazines, including Harpers, The Atlantic, and The New Republic. A lifelong doodler, she studied art history at Bard College and graphic design at the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA). Jessica lives in Washington, DC, with two cats and one husband.

Kyle Overton is a UX Designer that enjoys executing complex visual & technical challenges. He currently works for Capital One and has more than 7 years of experience in cross-disciplinary design roles, including interactive installations, motion graphics, UX, and print design.

Jess is an Associate Creative Director at Deloitte Digital with over 10 years of experience in the design industry. She leads cross-functional teams to collaborate and deliver compelling human-centered solutions for their clients. She graduated from American University with a bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design and is currently pursuing an MA in Design Leadership from the Maryland Institute College of Art and an MBA from Johns Hopkins.

Bailey O’Connell is a Senior Recruiter with Creative Circle. She has been with Creative Circle for 12 years – starting in Chicago and moving to DC to open the branch in 2011 – in her time with Creative Circle she has interviewed over 5,000 candidates in the creative, advertising and digital space!
